Servo motor controlled motion simulation system

This system uses an electric motor to simulate the six-degree-of-freedom motion of a real racing car. It includes a steering wheel, pedals, and shift. It also features a powerful force feedback system. The servo motors can generate up to 2 newton meters of physical feedback, which is comparable to the forces generated in a real car crash. The system is connected to a computer, which sends commands to the servo motors.

The Servo motor controlled motion simulation system has a control box with a computing unit and five digital signal processors. The first digital signal processor (DSP #0, TMS320F28377D) acts as the master control terminal and sends a command to the actuators through the CAN bus. The DSPs (#1#4) execute the command and return the feedback result to the master control terminal in real time.

The DSPs also use an encoder calibration method to improve the positioning accuracy of the surge axis. The calibration process involves reading and writing the compensation value to the EEPROM, based on the difference between the current model and the reference model. This approach allows the DSP to accurately measure the position of the surge axis, even when the servo is at rest.

The system can be mounted on a frame or in a simulator, and is capable of providing a variety of sensations, including acceleration, rear traction loss, understeer and oversteer, and weight transfer. It also simulates the front center of body yaw, making it feel like you’re really in the driver’s seat.
